Excessive Calibrations

“If you can’t fix it, feature it”. That’s the motto of some instrument vendors. Exotic calibration routines designed to mask poor instrument performance are BAD SCIENCE. Some vendors produce instruments that require calibration routines at multiple heating rates, using multiple standards, and a range of operating conditions. These time-wasting routines are inefficient, and necessary to compensate for “lag” inherent in the instrument. At best they represent a patch that covers glaring holes in basic instrument performance.

TA Instruments Q Series™ Thermal Analysis systems are designed to produce accurate repeatable data over a wide range of temperature and heating rates, after a single calibration run.

In addition, new Platinum software allows thermal analysts to automate calibration routines and validation runs. They can be scheduled to run automatically at night or over the weekend. This allows TA Instruments users to spend their valuable time at work performing research, and producing good scientific data.
