Inferior MDSC Substitutes
Modulated DSC has been described as the most significant advance in the field of calorimetry. The technology introduced in 1992 by TA Instruments, has revolutionized the field of differential scanning calorimetry. On the Q Series instrument, MDSC represents the most powerful DSC technique available on the market today. The patented ability to separate heat flow into its heat capacity and kinetic constituents is unique to the TA Instruments product.
Recently, other vendors have begun marketing “Step-Iso” DSC products intended to mimic the capabilities of MDSC, and even promote these “knock-offs” as equivalent technology. However, the truth lies in the data. These inferior MDSC substitutes only deliver a fraction of the signals generated by true MDSC. Step-Iso DSC techniques can not provide the same quality or quantity of information as MDSC, and as such are a prime examples of BAD SCIENCE.
